Agency of the Slovak Academy of Agricultural Sciences (A-SAAS) was established by the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic (MA SR) on 17th December, 1993, came into operation on 1st January, 1994 as a state financed organization of MA SR with legal personality, for indefinite period with the seat in Nitra. MA SR is its supreme organ, and it is under the administration of the state secretary of MA SR.
The Agency SAAS coordinates and supports the scientific, research and development activities in the department of agriculture SR and performs organizational, administrative and technical activities of the Slovak Academy of Agricultural Sciences (SAAS) and of its organs on the basis of contracting relationships.
The Agency SAAS performs the following activities when relations are created and the state and departmental policy is implemented in science and technique:

a) for the department of agriculture

• creation and implementation of the state and departmental policy in science and technique for the department of agriculture
• performing the service in the sphere of scientific and technical development for MA SR and other organs of the state administration using the activities of SAAS organs, individual institutes of the departmental scientific and technical basis (DSTB) and of the Institute for Scientific and Technical Information for Agriculture (ISTIA)
• preparation and implementation of scientific and technical projects with contribution from the state budget
• presentation of proposals of departmental organizational regulations and instructions for DSTB inclusive of suggestions for state orders, scientific and technical projects and grants
• setting up documents for the state budget in the chapter science and technique
• processing of statistical statements for the sphere of science and technique
• organizing of initial, running and closing discussions on objector reports, and evaluation of scientific and technical projects, state orders and departmental grants being solved within DSTB using scientific and working capacities of SAAS in the presence of representatives of special sections of MA SR,
• performance of further activities determined by its founder

b) for the Slovak Academy of Agricultural Sciences

• performing the organizational and administrative service for organs and organizational components of SAAS
• coordination of scientific, research, developmental, informational and editorial activities of SAAS, institutes of DSTB and ISTIA, and keeping files on these activities
• organizing the activities of SAAS organs (plenum, board, departments, commissions) and keeping agenda on activities of SAAS and its organs

c) other activities

• organizing national and international professional and scientific events under the SAAS programme and under intentions of professional sections of MA SR
• stimulation of development of interdepartmental scientific and technical cooperation under the SAAS programme and in accordance with intentions of special sections of MA SR and under requests of individual research institutes.

SAAS Agency establishes as its advisory organ the Council of Directors of the research institutions consisting of directors of institutes partly financed by state.
